Sermon Notes 6-06-10

Let’s Pray

Four Purposes of Prayer:

1.  Prayer is dedication.

“If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much
fruit, but apart form Me, you can do nothing.  If you remain
in Me and My words remain in you, you can ask whatever
you wish and it will be given you.”

John 15:4-5

2.  Prayer is communication.

“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting
was shaken.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and spoke the word of God boldly.”

Acts 4:31

“I am sorry I have not written sooner, but I forgot about
     you.”

Charlie Brown

3.  Prayer is asking.

“Don’t worry about anything but in everything, with your
prayers and your supplications, make your requests known
to God and the peace of God which passes all understanding
will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6

“God never shuts His storehouses until you shut your
     mouth.”

C.H. Spurgeon

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the
desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

4.  Prayer is partnership.

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God
were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on
Christ’s behalf:  Be reconciled to God.”

2 Corinthians 5:20

Our Father in heaven.
Prayer begins by drawing close to God.

Hallowed be Thy name.
We worship and honor God for all that He is.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.
I surrender to God's control.

Give us today our daily bread.
Declare your daily dependence.

Forgive us as we forgive others.
Forgive others the same way that God has forgiven you.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Lord, help me to recognize temptation before I fall for it.

Yours is the kingdom, power and glory, forever.
Put God first.
